Central's Eagle-Viewing Facilities Closed for Season

(HOLDREGE, Neb.) -- The last day to watch eagles from The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's eagle-viewing facilities at Kingsley Dam was Feb. 18.

Central had intended to keep the Kingsley facility open until Feb. 25, but a lack of eagles in the area led to its closure one week early. Only one bald eagle was sighted from the facility on Feb. 18.

Warmer temperatures may have scattered the eagles and signaled the beginning of the birds' northward migration.

The viewing facility at the Johnson No. 2 Hydroplant near Lexington closed on Jan. 28.
